T A C T

… We all need to have it

Tact:
  A keen sense of how to deal        
with people and difficult
situations without giving offense

THE ABILITY TO SAY & DO THE RIGHT THING

 
         
  Training   * Know your child’s natural (bent), or temperament.
* Learn the developmental stages children naturally move through.
* Implement a discipline plan agreed upon by both parents or adults involved.
* Make time to role play desired behavior.
 
         
  Alert
 &
  Attentive
  *  Be ready to praise and encourage.
*  Learn to disarm and fuse:
      A. Handling your child according to his/her
      temperament.
      B. Choose your words carefully.
      C. If need be, redirect your child to a
      quiet spot to “think about it”.
      D. After a few minutes lovingly talk with your
      child with a goal of restoration and growth.
 
         
  Consistency   *  Keep your promises.
*  Follow through on logical consequences.
*  The success of your discipline plan depends
    upon your consistency.
 
         
  Tender
But Firm
  * Remember with you follow through on your
   discipline plan, your goal is to
   “SHAPE NOT BREAK”.
* Use books to reinforce appropriate behavior.
 
         
         
 

Definitions
 

 
  Training To teach, instruct. To make skillful by teaching and practice.

Discipline:  Training, to train. A trained condition of order and obedience. A particular system of rules for conduct. To bring under control.

Offend:  To make someone feel hurt or angry.

Alert:  Keen and watchful.

Attentive:  Observant, you are paying attention.

Consistency:  Keeping the same principles, course of action.


Tender:  Not tough or hard.
Kind, affectionate, loving, considerate, and careful. Requiring careful or tactful handling.

Firm:  Not yielding to pressure. Consistent & steadfast. Solid, secure.
